September 2026 CPI: October 14 BLS Calendar and Kalshi Source Recheck

The September 2026 CPI is scheduled for release on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, at 08:30 AM Eastern Time, or 12:30 UTC. This is a 21-days-out recheck of the official calendars and exact Kalshi event records, focused on what traders should verify before making a contract decision.

Update, October 16, 2026: the Bureau of Labor Statistics released the September 2026 Consumer Price Index on schedule at 08:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14 (release USDL-26-1574). The all-items index rose 0.6 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in September and 3.7 percent over the past 12 months, and both Kalshi CPI events tied to the release have finalized. This guide, originally published September 23 as a pre-release source recheck, now records the official result and the settlement outcomes below.

Source snapshot: October 16, 2026. The pre-release sections below keep their September 23 observations clearly dated. The BLS news release and the finalized Kalshi records were rechecked directly on October 16; statuses below are dated observations, not promises of future availability.

Primary sources checked: the BLS CPI release calendar, the BLS October 2026 calendar, the KXCPI-26SEP event record, and the KXCPIYOY-26SEP event record. The BLS CPI homepage remains the primary report destination. The September 2026 CPI news release (USDL-26-1574) is the official record of the October 14 report.

The result: what BLS reported and how Kalshi settled

The Bureau of Labor Statistics published the September 2026 Consumer Price Index on schedule at 08:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, as release USDL-26-1574. The all-items CPI-U increased 0.6 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis in September, after rising 0.4 percent in August. Over the last 12 months, the all-items index increased 3.7 percent before seasonal adjustment, a larger rise than the 3.4 percent reported for the 12 months ending in August.

Core CPI (all items less food and energy) rose 0.3 percent on the month, as it did in August, and 2.6 percent over the year, following a 2.4 percent increase through August. The gasoline index rose 9.1 percent in September, accounting for over half of the monthly all-items increase, and the energy index rose 5.2 percent over the month and 20.4 percent over the year. The food index was unchanged on the month and up 2.5 percent over the year, while shelter rose 0.4 percent.

A dated October 16 recheck of the Kalshi API shows both September CPI events finalized:

Both boundaries match the one-decimal BLS headline values exactly: a monthly print of 0.6 percent settles “more than 0.5” yes and “more than 0.6” no, and a 3.7 percent year-over-year rate settles “above 3.6” yes and “above 3.7” no. The BLS news release and Kalshi's finalized results are two independent sources, and they agree for September 2026.

The close-time discrepancy flagged before the release also resolved. In the finalized records, every market in both events lists a close time of 2026-10-14T12:29:00Z, or 08:29 AM EDT, including the monthly lineup whose September 23 snapshot had shown 08:25. The final record matches the generic monthly terms PDF's 08:29 last-trading time. This page reports both dated observations without declaring which display was ever wrong; exact times are defined by each contract's rules, not by the BLS calendar.

What changed since the first September 2026 CPI guide

The official BLS schedule did not change between the September 10 guide and this September 23 recheck. Both BLS calendar views continue to show Consumer Price Index data for September 2026 at 08:30 AM ET on October 14.

The Kalshi event structure did change:

The increased monthly threshold count does not establish better liquidity, better execution, or a trading advantage. It only shows that the lineup expanded between two dated snapshots. Current availability and prices must come from Kalshi markets directly.

What the BLS and Kalshi records currently show

The two BLS calendar views agree

The reference-month table lists September 2026 for release on October 14, 2026, at 08:30 AM. Its adjacent rows show August CPI on September 11, October CPI on November 10, and November CPI on December 10. BLS says this calendar is updated as needed, usually at least one week before scheduled publication.

The October month view independently displays Wednesday, October 14, with “Consumer Price Index, September 2026” at 08:30 AM. A separate Real Earnings release occupies the same time slot. Both pages are maintained by BLS, so their agreement is useful confirmation but not evidence from two independent agencies. The October view was last modified February 18, 2026.

New York will be observing daylight time on October 14, making 08:30 AM ET equal to 12:30 UTC. That offset should not be assumed for releases in other months.

Monthly and year-over-year contracts are different

KXCPI-26SEP concerns the monthly percentage change in CPI for September and uses more-than thresholds stated to one decimal place. KXCPIYOY-26SEP concerns the CPI change over the twelve months ending September 2026, also using the one-decimal BLS value. Neither should be confused with core CPI. The earlier release and cutoff guide provides the fuller measure comparison.

Pre-release verification checklist for October 14

This page is a static source recheck, not a live quote or availability feed. The September 2026 release is complete, but the same checks apply to every future CPI release:

The next scheduled reference month is covered separately in the October 2026 CPI schedule guide. Update links may also appear through the @Kalshi_market channel.

Shutdown contingency and the cutoff discrepancy

Both exact event records include this contingency: “in case of a data delay caused by a federal government shutdown impacting the reliability of the Source Agency, the market's latest Expiration Date extends to the sooner of the release of the Underlying or six months after the end of the shutdown.”

This language does not predict a shutdown or establish that the October 14 release will be delayed. BLS had not changed the scheduled release as of September 23. Traders should read the current official contract text rather than infer a revised date, fallback calculation, or payout timeline.

Several timestamps also need to be kept separate. The scheduled BLS data release is 08:30 AM ET. The dated exact monthly event snapshot shows an 08:25 AM close, while the YoY snapshot shows an 08:29 AM close. A generic monthly CPI terms PDF reviewed with the earlier packet lists 08:29 AM for last trading and 08:31 AM for expiration, creating an unresolved discrepancy with the exact monthly event record.

This guide does not declare either source universally controlling. Trading close, report publication, contract expiration, determination, and payout are different events. None of the cited materials supports promising a particular settlement or payout time.

Post-release resolution, October 16 check: the extension language never came into play. BLS released on schedule, both events finalized the same morning, and the sampled expiration timestamps are 13:56 UTC for the monthly market and 14:00 UTC for the year-over-year market, each after the 08:29 close and the 08:30 release. The monthly cutoff discrepancy resolved as well: the finalized monthly markets list 08:29 AM EDT closes, matching the generic terms PDF rather than the 08:25 value shown in the September 23 snapshot.

Frequently Asked Questions

Was the September 2026 CPI released on schedule?

Yes. BLS transmitted the September 2026 Consumer Price Index news release (USDL-26-1574) at 08:30 AM ET on Wednesday, October 14, 2026, the date both BLS calendar views had listed in the earlier checks. The report showed the all-items index up 0.6 percent on a seasonally adjusted basis and up 3.7 percent over the 12 months ending September before seasonal adjustment.

What did the September 2026 CPI report show?

The CPI-U rose 0.6 percent in September on a seasonally adjusted basis after rising 0.4 percent in August. The all-items index rose 3.7 percent over the 12 months ending September before seasonal adjustment, up from the 3.4 percent reported for the 12 months ending August. Core CPI rose 0.3 percent on the month and 2.6 percent over the year. The gasoline index rose 9.1 percent in September, accounting for over half of the monthly all-items increase.

How did the Kalshi September CPI markets settle?

All 14 KXCPI-26SEP monthly threshold markets and all 21 KXCPIYOY-26SEP year-over-year markets finalized after the release, per the October 16 API recheck. The thresholds settled consistently with the one-decimal BLS headline figures: “more than 0.5%” settled yes while “more than 0.6%” settled no on the monthly print, and “above 3.6%” settled yes while “above 3.7%” settled no year over year.

Is the BLS CPI release time the same as the Kalshi market close?

No. BLS released the report at 08:30 AM ET. Expiration and payout remain separate timestamps.
